There is a long tradition in Washington.....
We have had a Chapter of the
California Branch of Clan MacMillan for many years. Sadly, the
President of that Chapter Careen McMillian Faubus passed away in 2007
and it seemed time to begin anew to provide for the community of M'Ms
in our state.
Starting with only a short
list of current and former Chapter members, the effort to rebuild
began, first obtaining the appointment by Chief George MacMillan of
MacMillan and Knap of Adhaniá Olson as Convener. This set the stage for the new organization, with the blessings of the California Branch.
The organization must hold an annual meeting, collect dues, pay its
expenses, keep records, publish a regular newsletter, and in many other
ways conduct business in a solid, legal and transparent fashion.
For the
foreseeable future, organization activities will be done by presenting
a Clan MacMillan tent at each of the Washington Scottish Highland
Games. This will be augmented by mailings at various times
throughout the year and by this website, which has already been
successful for attracting and enrolling new Charter Members.
Any person who
joins before the Inaugural Annual General Meeting (IAGM) of 2008 is a
Charter Member and deserving of our deep gratitude for helping us do
the "heavy lifting" needed to get this Branch up and running. The
IAGM will take place shortly after 2:00 PM on Saturday August 9, 2008
at McCormick Park in Duvall, WA. You may come early and join that
day, if you wish. We're glad to have you!
Those who join after August 9, 2008 will be regular members, enjoying
all the benefits of membership except the designation "Charter Member"
and the display of their name here on our website. So join before
August 9, if at all possible!
Look for our tartans,
banners and Clan tent at your local Scottish Highland Games. Come
on by and let's "count kin"! Pick up a newsletter, take a load
off your feet and enjoy a bottle of cold water. Join your clan as
it parades proudly among the other honorable Clans of Scotland.
It's your heritage; enjoy it!
